General Advice

Applications for PhD positions in Switzerland can generally follow two routes: either you apply to a Doctoral school, or you find a PhD advisor directly.

  1.  In the first case, you will file your application electronically, and be selected by a committee. Only afterwards will you have to look for a thesis advisor. Details on the application process can be found on the websites of the scientific institutions. For instance, you can have a look at the following links:
  2. If you decide instead to contact a professor directly, you will be interviewed by her/him. After being accepted, you will be guided by your advisor in the remaining steps. You should not hesitate to contact a professor you may be interested in working with. The professor will be able to provide you with information on the availability of a position, and on the deadlines.
