Welcome to the page of the International Meeting for Science in Palestine, to be held in Cambridge, U.K., from January 5th through 7th, 2018.

This will be our first international gathering to discuss how to implement concrete programs and long term visions to strengthen the growth of science in Palestine and help build ties between the Palestinian and international scientific communities. The target audience is a mix of Palestinian academics and students, and of international scientists committed to advancing these goals.
The poster of the meeting can be downloaded here (pdf).
It will contain talks and strategy sessions on:

  • Current status of science in Palestine.
  • Challenges of doing science under the occupation.
  • Opportunities for international scientists to get involved.

Feel free to contact us for more information.

Program:

The program is available here. Most of the meeting was streamed live on Facebook, and the videos are available here.

Application:

The application deadline has now passed (December 15th 2017) and registration is closed. Participants are expected to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Feel free to contact us if you need more information.

Location:

The meeting will be held at the Postdoc Centre at Eddington (a map of the local area is available here, and a map with the Postdoc Centre marked here).

The Postdoc Centre is housed in two adjacent buildings by the market square, where there is also a Sainsbury’s. Our meeting will take place in the lecture block (Block E), and will be sign-posted from the market square.
Please note: i) the Eddington development is still an active building site, and we are likely to use temporary path from the market square to the lecture hall (there will be signage), ii) the Postdoc Centre also includes a second building with a reception, which however will be unmanned and closed during our meeting. Please go directly to the lecture hall, iii) the mobile phone signal is still weak in the area, as the phone companies have yet to install a booster.

Transportation:

There are several ways to get to Eddington from the city centre.
Bus:
Eddington is served by the U-line bus service, which on Saturdays leave each half hour from the railway station (8.02, 8.32, 9.02 etc). Market square at Eddington is the last stop. For a schedule and a map of pick-up points, see this leaflet from the bus company. There is no bus service on Sundays.
Car:
Eddington is accessible from Madingley road and Huntingdon road. There is no parking on site but the Madingley Park & Ride is £1 for 18 hours and only 3 minutes’ walk up to the Sainsbury’s/Market Square. For GPS/Sat Nav, please use the postal code of the Park & Ride (CB3 0EZ) or Sainsbury’s (CB3 1SE) as the postdoc centre’s postal code does not appear on Google Maps yet.
Taxi:
Taxis to Eddington should by default use the market square as drop off point.
Bicycle, foot:
Eddington is about 15 minutes by bike from central Cambridge, or 45 minutes by foot. From the railway station, it is 20 minutes by bike or 65 minutes by foot.
